There are a few things to consider when you’re choosing the best crib mattress for your baby.
Firmness: Crib Mattress are firmer than adult mattresses in order to keep babies safe and to support growing bones while they sleep. Firm crib mattress also help reduce the risk of SIDS.
Fit: According to the CPSC, full-size crib mattress must measure 27 1/4 inches wide and 51 1/4 inches long. The crib mattress should fit snugly against the crib's frame. There should be no more than two fingers between the crib mattress and the crib. If you choose a mini crib or bassinet, you can find fit regulations here.
Waterproof: The crib mattress should have a vinyl or polyethylene surface to make it waterproof and mildew resistant, or, if you choose the fabric option, a waterproof cover should always be added.
Materials: Some parents prefer crib mattress made from natural and organic materials to avoid the chemicals used in standard mattress production. (Note that health effects have not been assessed).
